General Skilled Migration Visa
Skilled Independent Visa – Subclass 189
Skilled – Independent visa allows highly skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, State or Territory of Australia, or family member to live and work permanently in Australia. If you wish to apply for this visa under the Points-tested stream, you must first obtain a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation, and then lodge an Expression of Interest. If this is successful, you will be invited to lodge a visa application.
General Requirements
- Be invited by the minister to apply
- Be under 45 years of age
- Nominate an occupation that is included on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
- Have your skills assessed by the appropriate Australian skills assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation
- Score at least 65 on the relevant points test
- Have component English
Skilled Nominated Visa – Subclass 190
The Skilled – Nominated visa allows highly skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian State or Territory to live and work permanently in Australia. If you wish to apply for this visa, you must first obtain a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation, and then lodge an Expression of Interest. If this is successful, and you are nominated by a State or Territory, you will be invited to lodge an application for this visa.
General Requirements
- be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency
- be under 45 years of age
- nominate an eligible occupation that is included on the current Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) OR on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
- have your skills assessed by the appropriate Australian skills assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation
- have competent English (as per previous slide)
- score at least 65 on the relevant points test (which takes into account your age, English competency, qualifications and work experience, amongst other factors)
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa – Subclass 491
The subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa allows invited skilled workers to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia (specified by postcode) for up to five years. You must first obtain a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation and then lodge an Expression of Interest. If this is successful, you will be invited to lodge a visa application.
General Requirements
- Be under 45 years of age
- Nominate an occupation that is included on the relevant State or Territory skilled occupation list
- Have your skills assessed by the appropriate Australian skills assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation
- Have component English
- Score at least 65 on the relevant points test
- Be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency OR be sponsored by an eligible relative who resides in a designated area of Australia
